Shirley Jean Davis Major

Shirley Jean Davis Major, 88, of Honea Path passed away September 30, 2023 at The Maples in Honea Path, SC.

 Her parents were the late Fannie Mae and Alvin Davis.  She graduated from Honea Path High School in 1953 and soon married her beloved husband, Freddy Major, who preceded her in death after 62 years of marriage.  Together, along with their son, they continued the tradition of working the family farm.  Shirley was the bookkeeper for Major Farms and enjoyed working alongside her granddaughter-in-law, Emma, in this capacity over the past several years.  She also worked as a bookkeeper for Langston Real Estate for many years and had other secretarial  jobs throughout her life including her work at Huggins Garment. 

Shirley loved her family and was affectionately known by her grandchildren as Mema. She was an active member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.  She taught a countless number of children in Sunday School and through Girls in Action (GAs).  She was passionate about guiding and encouraging children and teaching them the word of God.  She was also involved in many church committees and groups.  Shirley enjoyed traveling with her friends and sisters, going on shopping trips and talking with all her many friends. 

Surviving is her son, Ernie Major (Lana) of Honea Path as well as two grandchildren, Ben Major (Emma) of Honea Path and Katherine Fallaw (Hampton) of Greenwood. She is also survived by sisters Pat Martin and Glenda Ricketts of Honea Path and Deborah Mahon of Anderson. 

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a brother, Charles Davis and sisters, Peggy Watts and Martha Henderson.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Krieger and Pastor Ron Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemeterey. 

The family will be at the home of Ernie and Lana Major and will receive friends from 2:30-4:00 on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023 at the church prior to the service.
