Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Martha “Mattie” Josephine Pepper Shirley. She was a long time member of Keowee Baptist Church and retired from Maxwell Manufacturing and the Antreville Shirt Plant. She loved her church, flowers, the Anderson Jockey Lot and going to yard sales. Sissy loved all her kids and prayed for everybody. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are: a son, Dale (Wanda) Strickland of Honea Path; twelve grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sissy was preceded in death by three sons, Dave, Danny and Steve Strickland; her daughter, Ann Alewine; two brothers, Tommy and John William Shirley; and her sister, Elizabeth McClain.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rickey Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 1-3 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
