Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late James Carlton and Laura Kelly Pruitt. At just 16 years old, she met David Jones, the man who would become her soul mate, best friend, and the love of her life. From the moment they met, it was love at first sight. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and music. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she poured her heart into making every moment with them special.
Her mornings began with a cup of coffee, her Bible, and the quiet company of deer and birds outside her window. Her faith was the foundation of her life and guided her every day. She was a member of the Belton First Baptist Church and was a graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School Class of 1970.
She was a fantastic cook who made sure her family gathered around the table every Sunday. Her grandchildren and their friends will always remember the joy of her homemade chocolate and biscuits. She brought magic to every holiday, especially Christmas, when she transformed her home into a festive wonderland and played Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song on repeat.
She had a timeless sense of style red lipstick, red nails, and high heels were her signature. She loved long walks on the land with her faithful dog, Sarge, and cherished every part of nature every bird, every wild animal (except snakes), and even fed a colony of about thirty cats with every leftover scrap from her kitchen.
She shared an unbreakable bond with her close-knit circle of friends, affectionately known as the "Rat Pack." Together, they made memories full of laughter and love. Her infectious laugh was one of her most unforgettable qualities—bright, bold, and full of life. It had a way of lighting up every room and lifting the spirits of everyone around her.
Her love of music was a thread through her life. She and David shared a special affection for beach music and Motown. In 2017, they traveled to Muscle Shoals with the Combo Kings, forging friendships within the music scene that remained with her for the rest of her life.
She also passed down her passion for The Phantom of the Opera to her children and grandchildren, ensuring her legacy lives on through music, family traditions, and a love of beauty in all forms.
Her life was a beautiful symphony of faith, family, friendship, and love, a song that will echo in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, David of the home, two daughters, Laura McGonigle (Scott) and Tonya Lusk both of Belton, a sister, Gale Hunter of Belton, and six grandchildren, Lauren Ridgeway (Keller), Anna-Kelly Gary (Dylan), Nolan McGonigle (Caitlin), Tynan McGonigle (Anslee), Ryleigh Locke (Samuel), and Sydney Lusk.
Debby was predeceased by her parents, and two brothers, Tommy and Sidney Pruitt.
