Toni Hughes Culbreath

Anderson - Toni Diane Hughes Culbreath, 76, of Midway Drive, widow of David Hix Culbreath, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Edward and Lula Mae Hughes Smith. Toni graduated from Ware Shoals High School in 1967. Her career led her to work at First Citizens in Ware Shoals where she was branch manager and it was from there that she gained trust and friendships of many. She also served on the Ware Shoals Town Council and The Catfish Feastival Committee for many years. She was very proud of her hard and successful work on the Veterans Memorial.

Toni was a true friend with many acts of kindness and generosity. She was always one to give without expecting anything in return. She had a strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support of her community. We are left with an unfillable void in our lives yet we find comfort in the memories and everlasting love we shared with Toni. She will forever reside in our hearts.

A member of First Presbyterian Church of Ware Shoals, Toni attended Concord Baptist Church in Anderson since moving there. She was a member of the ABC Club (Anderson By Choice), SOUL Bible Study and Singles Sunday School Class of Concord Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband David Hix Culbreath to whom she was married to for 47 years. Also by her precious daughter Selena Connor Culbreath that she cherished and has kept her memory alive for 35 years.

After Hix passed away Toni moved to Anderson and met many new friends including Ed Brent who has been a friend, companion, dancing partner and traveling buddy. They became engaged and have enjoyed life together for the past 7 years. Ed will cherish his memories with Toni and will care for her adored dog Simba.

She is survived by her fiancé Ed Brent, three sisters, Shelia Taylor (Len), Cindy Harris (George), and Bennie Smith Thompson, five nieces and nephews, Andrea Cabe (Frank), Lance Taylor (Brittany), Allison Taylor, Genevieve Harris, and Jacob Harris (Beth), four great-nieces and two great-nephews.
