Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Elmer Rhett “Pete” and Martha Fields Kerr. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a retired entrepreneur. He attended Ware Shoals schools and started work at Honea Path Shirtmakers. He had many ventures including Bobby’s Service Station on Highway 25, working as a pipe fitter, Bobby’s Shell of Anderson, Bobby’s Bus Company of Anderson, manager of the Anderson Braves in 1971, Bobby’s Shell and Hornets Nest of Ware Shoals, the Ware Shoals Amusement Center in the Ware Shoals Inn, and Southside Truck Stop. After his retirement he hosted car shows at Sweetgum Park.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred, of the home, two daughters, Pattie Smith (Jack) of Ware Shoals and Angie Owens (Larry) of Monks Corner, a son, Eddie Smith (Judy) of Duncan, two brothers, J.D. Kerr of Ware Shoals and Joe Kerr of Anderson, a sister Brenda Clamp Barfield of McCormick, ten grandchildren, Shawn, Scott, Kayla, Jessica, Jenna, Channing, Blake, Brittne’, Bruce, and Allison, and sixteen great-grandchildren, Ellis, Harper, Stella, Banks, Miller, Mary Kerr, Levi, Bentley, Caroline, Eliza Kate, Brylan, Konner, Jackson, Rhett, William, and McKinley. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Kerr.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel, Ware Shoals with Rev. Charles Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories, Belton.
