Born in Greenwood he was a son of Clayton and Elizabeth Nalley Harper. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a 1975 graduate of Ware Shoals High School. David started racing as a teenager and built cars and engines though out his life and enjoyed attending races with Brown Racing and helping his son Dave. He was a loving husband and loved spending time with his family, especially with his brothers. He was a friend to everyone and would always be the first to help. He loved his two dogs Lucy and Stella.
Surviving are his wife, Billie Ann, of the home, a son, David Ray Brown (Tera) of Greenwood, a daughter, Amy Nelson (Robby) of Ware Shoals, two brothers, Billy Brown (Diane) of Ware Shoals and Sydeny Lee Brown of Ware Shoals, two sisters, Elizabeth Henley of Ware Shoals, and Cindy Moore (Bill) of Ware Shoals, 8 grandchildren, Autumn Rae, Gracelyn, Jaxson, Kasey McCarty(Billy), Jayden, Jacob, Hannah, and Abby, and a great-grandchild, Mason..
He was predeceased by his father, Bill Brown, his mother, Elizabeth Nalley Harper, his step-father, Clayton Harper, a brother, Dwayne Brown and a grandson, Chandler Wood.
Memorial Services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, October 9, 2026 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel, Ware Shoals with Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating.
