Born in Belton, SC, Mike was a son of the late James Calhoun “Jake” and Edith Willingham Thompson.  He was a member of Church at the Mill — Lake Cooley.  Mike was also a 1969 graduate of Belton-Honea Path High school and a 1972 graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He was employed as a financial analyst with Blair Mills of Belton and later with The Sunshine House of Greenwood.

Surviving are his wife, Angela, of the home, a daughter Kylie Kuykendall (Eric) of Inman, a son, Jacyn Harper Thompson (Kimberly) of Lititz, PA, a sister Teresa Pruitt (Luke) of Lexington, a brother Mark Thompson of Mt. Pleasant and five grandchildren: Karis, Justus, Ava, Chad and Tessa. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Tommy Thompson and a sister, Sherri DePetrillo.  

Cryptside services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Garden of Memories, Belton, with Rev. Dr. Eric Kuykendall officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to The Bridge at Green Street at 317 Green Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29303.  Online condolences may be made at www.parkerwhitepruitt.com.
