Ed Trammell

Spartanburg ~  Larkin Edward “Ed” Trammell, 101, of Mohawk Drive, husband of Virginia Coggins Trammell, died Monday, November 17, 2025, a day after his 101st birthday at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Carl Hosea and Ella Rose Benson Trammell. He was a member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church where he attended the Fellowship Sunday School class. Ed was employed by the U.S. Post Office and later worked at Hugh Atkins Construction Co. and at J. Bulman Floor Covering until the age of 91.

Ed served from 1943 to 1945 attaining the rank of  Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater including the Rome-Arno, Southern France, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. He was called back to active duty in 1950 during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He was the oldest living veteran of World War II in Spartanburg County.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of the home, a daughter Rosemary Trammell Hendricks of Spartanburg, three grandchildren, Hannah (Jonah), Austin (Holly), and Julia (Robert) and six great-grandchildren, Amelia Ann, Joseph Thomas, Ella Lee, Julian, Chance and Larkin, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Rob & Cathy Tracey.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his parents, a son, Thomas Edward "Tommy" Trammell,  a granddaughter, Gina Cowen Smith, two brothers, Frank H. Trammell (Mary) and Carl Tyler Trammell (Mary Lee) and a sister, Frances Trammell Calvo (Randolph).

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, November 24 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 with Rev. Bob Morgan and Mr. Al Clark officiating.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends 11-12 on Monday, November 24 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307 prior to the service.
