Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Lee Alfonso Simpson and Lillian Cothran Simpson. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and a 1955 graduate of Laurens High School.
Mr. Simpson proudly served his country as a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard in Laurens. Throughout his working career, he was employed by Riegel Textile Company, House of Fabric in Mauldin, Her Majesty in Mauldin, and later retired from the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Laurens. He was an avid fisherman and a collector of memorabilia.
In addition to his loving wife, Gloria of the home, he is survived by his son, Mark Simpson of Laurens; four daughters, Melissa Simpson Bruns (Lawrence) of Laurens; Tammy Culbertson of Waterloo, Tracey Roberts (Chris) of Hickory Tavern, and Teresa West of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, J.T. Bruns, Autumn Taylor (Matt),Danielle Prather )Shane), Benny Culbertson (Diedra), Matthew Culbertson (Charlee), Kelsey West (Jesse), Justin Marlar (Alyssa), and Kaitlyn Roberts, many great and great-grandchildren and his lifelong friend, Tommy Henderson.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Ben Culbertson, and his uncle, Roy Simpson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with the Rev. Lamar Babb officiating.
