Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late George Hugh Frederick, Sr. and Doris Ashley Frederick.

Patty was a devoted member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, where her faith and service spanned nearly seven decades. She joined the church in 1957, when at the age of 11 she gave her heart to Jesus. Through the years, she served her church in numerous capacities, including as a trustee, Sunday School teacher, Training Union leader, AWANA leader, and member of numerous committees. She also loved music and especially enjoyed singing in the church choir and sharing her faith through solos.

Her love for Ware Shoals extended well beyond her church. Patty was a member of the original Catfish Committee for the Town of Ware Shoals and also served with the Great Towns Committee and the Small Towns Development Association. She served the citizens of Ware Shoals for 14 years as a member of Town Council.

Of all her years of service to the town, Patty held a special place in her heart for the Ware Shoals Senior Center and the people who gathered there for fun, food, and fellowship. One of her greatest desires was to leave the Senior Center better than she found it.

A 1964 graduate of Ware Shoals High School, Patty enjoyed a 43-year career in banking. She began her career with Heritage Federal Savings and Loan and retired from First Citizens Bank in 2012 as an Operations Consultant, serving 30 bank branches throughout Upstate South Carolina and Northeast Georgia.

Surviving are her daughter, Shelley Walters Halpin (Jimmy) of Donalds; a grandson, Richard Tyler Halpin (Amanda); three great-grandchildren, Micah Branson, McKinley, and Bexley; a niece, Ashley Frederick McAlister (Terry) of Honea Path; a great-nephew, Devin Hugh Cook; and a great-niece, Raelyn Grace Beasley.

Among the many friends Patty loved and cherished were two especially dear friends, Emma Camak, her lifelong friend, and Anne Aldridge, a treasured friend from her years in banking.

In addition to her husband, R.L., and her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, George Hugh “Sonny” Frederick, Jr.; a sister, Sylvia Heller; and a great-nephew, Drayton Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, August 17, 2026, at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Floyd Parker and Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at her home and will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals, and from 1 to 2 P.M. Monday at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church prior to the service.
