JOANNE MC WHORTER COGBURN

Joanne Findley McWhorter Cogburn, 73, of 30 Greenacres Drive, died March 1, 2008 at Self Regional Medical Center. She was born in Toombs County, Ga., a daughter of the late Alex and Pinkie Mitchum Findley. She was retired from Capsugel and was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church. She was active in the Love Sunday School Class, ADY and she was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Self Regional Medical Center and a caregiver to many. She was on the Steering Committee of the Catfish Feastival, member of the Woman’s Civic Club and was a poll worker for Greenwood County voter registration.

She was twice married, first to the late Billy Ray McWhorter and to James F. Cogburn of the home.

Also surviving are: one son, Michael Ray McWhorter and wife Kelly, Greenwood, two stepsons, Jimmy Cogburn, Greenwood, and John Cogburn, Atlanta, Ga.; two step-daughters, Carol Cogburn, Greenwood and Kay Fleming, Ware Shoals; one brother, L.P. Findley, Jackson, S.C. and four sisters; Lucille Freeman, June Smith and Eloise Findley all of Ware Shoals and Dorothy Anderson, Hodges, and two grandchildren Melanie Ann McWhorter and husband Tom Rael and Bonnie Leigh McWhorter all of Santa Fe, New Mexico and four great grandchildren, Gaby and Niko Rael and Zane and Mia Burke.

She was pre-deceased by one brother, Hollis Findley and one sister, Lois Bifano.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the First Baptist Church at 2 pm with the Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home at 30 Greenacres Drive and will receive friends Tuesday, 6-8 pm at Parker-White Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 1 pm on Wednesday. Parker-White Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.parkerwhitepruitt.com.
